For those in the know, Wasabi Bistro holds iconic status in Honolulu’s culinary world. Long before the restaurant moved to its open-air poolside locale at The Breakers Hotel, it was a go-to spot on Kapahulu for dishes like Papaya Motoyaki, seafood topped with a cream sauce baked to a golden crust in a fresh papaya boat, and Kumi’s #1, an appetizer of crabmeat and avocado wrapped with white fish that’s named after owner Kumi Iseki. Sushi and grilled fish are incredibly fresh, and the servers adept at suggesting pairings from the large sake menu. Both lunch and dinner feature appetizers, a la carte dishes and full set menus.
