Ozumo Restaurant - SF

161 Steuart Street
San Francisco, CA 94105

Restaurant Description:

Excellent Japanese cuisine, elegant decor and a waterfront view highlight this Embarcadero restaurant. Large dark wood doors open into an expansive sake bar featuring over thirty labels. Beyond an open kitchen, a brighter and softer raised dining room boasts beautiful handmade lampshades, textured wallpaper and modern furniture selected by the restaurant's Japanese designer. "Ozumo features the largest sushi bar in San Francisco," says, "serving the freshest and best cuts of premium fish, with sweeping views out to San Francisco Bay." The robata grill features eleven vegetable and eleven meat and fish dishes. The hirame-hime (halibut and scallop carpaccio with grape-Grand Marnier dressing) and futago (beef tenderloin and eggplant with miso-sesame sauce) taste as stunning as they look. "Like many Japanese restaurants that are adapting to American culture," says the San Francisco Chronicle, "Ozumo also offers several creative rice rolls, including the Berkeley roll, which combines arugula and carrots with a ginger dressing, and the Alcatraz roll of eel, cucumber, avocado and a sweet soy sauce." The restaurant's name, ozumo, means "sumo champion" and is a tribute to Japan's national sport.

San Francisco Chronicle: "Spectacular surroundings. Wonderful fish dishes like tender butterfish."

Zagat Survey: "A sake selection that will knock your socks off."
